This creative writing competition is for Wits students and is run by Wits students. This is your space to express yourself.
The prize for the best short story is R1000, while second place nets R500 and third prize is R250.
As with anything, this competition does need to have some boundaries: 1. Entrants must be current Wits students or staff members. 2. The entry must refer to Wits at least once. 3. The word limit is 4 000 words. 4. Entries must be typed with double spacing. 5. The name of the writer must not appear on the short story at all, but must be included on a separate cover page that also includes the writer's contact details and student number. 6. Closing date is 30 October 2007. 7. The story must be the writer's original work and cannot have been previously published in any form.

pillow there was
a mangy dog
in my freezer.
"What the heck,"
I mumbled, disappointed
frozen regret steaming
from my moustache.
